Pure Power

The claims of the manufacturers of the Pure Power Mouthguard and Pure Power Edge (PPM / PPE) are extraordinary. They say the orthopedic force increases, the balance and performance of athletes. They state their sports guard can help athletes in all sports, including those not typically use a sports watch. Sports that believe the PPM / PPE may help include:

• Cross Country

· Basketball

· Bike

Corrosives, including cross country, track, and marathons

· Soccer

· Golf

Ski ·

· Skate and Snowboard

• The weight training

· Waterpolo

In other words, say that athletes in all sports. They have also promised that their claims would be supported by a university study, possibly sponsored by Tufts University, with the participation of Harvard University.

The Theory

The theory behind PPM / PPE is malocclusion, or a misaligned bite, can have side effects on the muscles and nerves of the face and neck, which in turn can affect the vertebral position, resulting in back pain and functional problems with the rear. To some extent this has been proven in clinical studies with Studies show that treatment for the temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ), one neuromuscular disease of the jaw, increases the length of the chiropractic adjustment of the atlas vertebra, which in turn has been shown to lead to significant reductions high blood pressure.

The theory is that any effect on the position of the spine and muscles of the neck and upper torso can lead to yield reductions, especially in any task that depends on the upper body strength or functions in the areas directly affected by the position of the jaw, as the inner ear, which regulates most of our functions and balance. In addition, poor bite position can lead to obstruction respiratory tract, reducing the oxygen supply during periods of high demand. Thus, in theory, athletes who have a position bad bite can improve the experience more strength, balance and endurance. Given that some estimates say 90% of Americans suffer from malocclusion, meaning that virtually all athletes will experience improved performance of some type of dental orthopedics.

History

Dentists first proposal that malocclusion could affect athletic performance during the 1970s. Following the revelations, like the arrival of Gatorade during the 1960s, sports medicine was making a real impact to give teams a competitive advantage over their opponents, and everyone was in search of the next much. In response, a number of innovations were tried, including the mandibular orthopedic repositioning device (Mora). MORA leap to fame when it was used by teams of U.S. bobsleigh and luge at the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York, in 1980. After this high profile use Dental Association Americana (ADA) commissioned a scientific study on the participation of players mouthguard football at the University of Louisville and found no evidence that the stronger mouthguard. Following this study, all the hype surrounding the MORA vanished.

The difference?

In the 1990s, neuromuscular dentists who specialize in treating disorders of the hard and soft tissues of the jaw in relation to malocclusion, began noticing that his treatment seemed to have an unexpected side effect. Patients undergoing dental treatment seemed neuromuscular be having positive effects on their golf games. A dentist, Dr. Anil Makkar, pursued the lead and produced the PPE / PPM, designed to give athletes position optimal bite during sports activities. Following the demonstrations with a number of amateur and semi professional athletes, Dr. Makkar and several disciples specific professional athletes. As a result, the quarterback of the CFL team the Toronto Argonauts kicker St. Louis Rams, and, above all, Red Sox Boston's Manny Ramírez uses one. All of these athletes swear by the results.

Is there a difference between the PPM / PPE and Mora? According to promoters, the default was positioned manually apparatus involving a large amount of guesswork in application. In contrast, the PPM / PPE device is supposedly a scientifically formulated. The use of instruments designed to provide a quantifiable measure of occlusion, PPM / PPE advocates say they really can deliver real benefits to athletes using the device during competition.

Science?

They have made claims for PPM / PPE advocates been confirmed by scientific studies? Despite Dr. Makkar promoting a placebo controlled double blind clinical study to be published in May this year, no study has been published. On other fronts, the news of the potential benefits of occlusion nozzles is mixed.

The Researchers at the Gelb Craniomandibular Pain Center at Tufts University called the studies through questions about the effectiveness of the current "flawed" and said that new studies should be designed differently to be more effective in evaluating the results accurately the position of the jaw apparatus as Mora and PPE / PPM. Furthermore, a recent study of golf swing six professional golfers with and without MORA showed no difference when golfers are not used or devices.

The question

So, the question remains: Does the PPE / PPM improve the performance of athletes? One hopes that the new study might be able to provide a definitive answer, but is unlikely to completely close the problem. If the study is favorable for the PPE / PPM, it is unlikely that charges that the study design allowed the researchers associated with PPM / PPE to keep the best of its data. If the study is unfavorable, it is likely that dentists who have invested significant amounts of money on the device searches for other studies to better measure the results they seek. But no matter what, the question can not be pushed until the publication of the study.

After a three-year hiatus, Kansas re-formed in 1986, signed with MCA, and released Power. The album bears virtually no resemblance to the old Kansas style; in fact, it’s more hard rock and pop than prog rock, and the tough-yet-sleek opener, “Silhouettes in Disguise,” immediately announces the change to listeners. “Power” was a minor hit and the simple chorus is effective. “All I Wanted” is pure pop, and this Top 20 hit single features lush keyboards and Steve Walsh’s earnest, melodramatic vocals. The instrumental “Musicatto” is the album’s primary link to Kansas’ prog rock past. “Taking in the View” is a gentle song featuring sweet acoustic guitar and a children’s chorus. “Three Pretenders” and “Tomb 19″ both rely on strong rock & roll hooks and soaring choruses. “Can’t Cry Anymore” is an orchestra-based ballad. On his third album as Aarktica, Jon DeRosa hit an ingenious balance between avant-gardist guitar soundscapes, neo-folk songwriting, and post-rock dreaminess. "Out to Sea" opens the set with lush overdubbed and processed female vocals (Lorraine Lelis) over backwards guitar. Then DeRosa sings about "The Mimicry All Women Use" in a stark but ear-catching voice. The simple strummed guitar accompaniment gets a boost halfway into the track from Escapade`s drummer Hadley Kahn — at that point he should have lost the drum machine track, as the two don`t always stay in sync, but that`s a minor point. "Snowstorm Ruins Birthday" offers a slab of well-controlled atmospheric noise guitar before "Ocean" comes back to the indie rock ballad format. For "Big Year" and "Williamsburg Counterpoint," Aarktica turns into a real band, adding Molly Sheridan and Mahogany`s Andrew Prinz on strings, bassist Ernie Adzentoivich, and the aforementioned Kahn. The former song is dark and understated, but the latter serves up a thrilling 11-minute post-rock flight replete with a slow beat and a distorted sustained guitar solo. These "band" tracks show a lot of promise, but it is their power combined to the seditious charm of the smaller-scale songs that makes Pure Tone Audiometry such a delightful album.
